An engagingly offbeat look at life in the new Eastern Europe, in the form of a witty variation on the caper movie. Money-courier Johnny is already up to his neck in trouble when he encounters femme fatale Shirley. When she disappears from his life as suddenly as she entered it, he goes in search of her - somewhat reluctantly accompanied by a seemingly oafish petty criminal met in East Germany - and ends up, mystified, in the Ukraine… The narrative twists and turns are pleasurable in themselves, but it's the sure sense of character and place that provides the movie with real substance.
With Victoria Malektorovych, Josef Hader, Detlev W Buck
